Flexibility Helps Assisted Living Communities Get Bulk COVID-19 Test Kits

On Feb. 11, The New York Times published the article, “For Older Americans, the Pandemic Is Not Over: Seniors are increasingly left to protect themselves as the rest of the country abandons precautions: ‘Americans do not agree about the duty to protect others.’”

That’s been obvious since the pandemic began.

Attend Safe believes we have a duty of care toward our fellow human beings, especially those who might have underlying conditions that put them at greater risk of sickness or death.

Because of that, when the emergency declaration expires, and access to bulk quantities of test kits to screen visitors before they’re on-site might dry up, Attend Safe is prepared to assist our friends in the Assisted Living space with bulk supplies of test kits as we approach the end of federal intervention and changes that will make them cost prohibitive or, possibly, unavailable.

The same theory that we’ve successfully used in the Events space—using reliable pre-entry testing to stop infected people from bringing COVID-19 into an event—holds true for the Assisted Living and Nursing Facilities. We can help protect our seniors and people with impaired health from coronavirus exposure. Doing so might save a life.

Norovirus News

You may have seen reports of growing numbers of norovirus cases in the U.S. Norovirus is a regularly occurring virus that causes almost a half-million emergency room visits, 100,000 hospitalizations, and about 900 deaths each year. It’s very contagious and causes vomiting and diarrhea. Anyone can get sick with norovirus. People usually get it through direct contact with an infected person, by consuming contaminated food or water, or by touching a contaminated surface, then having contact between their unwashed hands and mouth.

COVID-19 by the Numbers

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data published Feb. 13 shows 3,172 new COVID-19 deaths and 282,827 new confirmed cases for the week. Only 15.8% of the eligible U.S. population has received the updated, or bivalent, booster.
